Melisa Angelone
Age: 39
Occupation: Full-time wife and mom of two
Where I live: Scottsdale, Arizona
What I do: I am a full-time wife and mom of two – Johnny, age 12 and Frankie, age 10. I also work from home for the Marketing department of a major luxury hotel brand. In my free time (is there free time?) I train. I’ve run five stand-alone marathons and I just completed Ironman Florida. I am now working on getting prepared for Ironman Coeur d’Alene in June of 2007.
Favorite Race: I’d have to say my most favorite race ever was the New York Marathon. I ran with Fred’s Team and it was the most amazing experience – every single part of it – the people, the course, the city, the weather. I ran with a friend of mine, we started together and finished together after high-fiving every child we could find along the route. It was the perfect day and the perfect race. Every marathoner should run New York at least once.
Hardest Race: You might think I’d say Ironman was the hardest, but to be honest it was my first marathon. I was under trained and under prepared. The night before the race, it rained like crazy and washed out the course, so we ended up running five five-mile loops. I started out too fast and ended up hitting a major wall at mile 18. It was so windy, at one point, I think the wind was actually pushing me backwards, and right about mile 20, I developed killer ITB pain. The minute I hobbled across the finish line, I looked at my husband and said, “I am never doing that again”. Famous last words…
Favorite Food: I eat a heck of a lot of peanut butter. I don’t know that it’s my favorite, but it sure works well during training. My most favorite food in the whole world, though, would have to be my mom’s spanakopita.
