Where has the summer gone.....

Yes, if you look closely that is a smile on Ginny's face

Sue with 30k left to go and her amazing support crew getting her through the miles....YOU ROCK!

The September long weekend always signifies the change from summer to fall as the days get a bit shorter and then evenings are cooler it is often a welcome change.  During this summer of 2007 I have had the opportunity to experience so many great things and over the next couple of weeks I look forward to feeling like I am 12 again and writing the essay,"What I did this summer......."

This weekend will definetly be a high point in my summer.  While Val was racing in her 1st of 3 World Championships of the season(Val has successfly qualified for the ITU Olympic distance World's, 70.3 in Clearwater and of course Ironman Hawaii in October), Sue Taylor found herself taking a scenic tour of the Okanagan this long weekend and I mean scenic and I mean LOOOONNNGGGG Weekend.  Sue Taylor, mother of 2, wife and one of the neatest 50-year old(OK stubborn) women I have ever met took part in Ultraman this weekend.  Ultraman was first contested over on the island of Hawaii where the athletes basically travel the circumference of the island.  So, the distances:

  • Day 1 - 10km swim and a 140km Bike ride
  • Day 2 - 270km bike ride from Penticton to Princeton
  • Day 3 - 84km run along the old Princeton-Summerland Highway

I will say this much......we have some pretty spectacular country side in this part of the world!  And some pretty loopy athletes!

I knew 2 athletes doing this event.  The first my friend Ginny who agreed last minute(like 2 weeks ago last minute) to ride for a relay.  Ginny is an absolute superstar and she just keeps smiling going up the hills!  The other is Sue Taylor.  I started working with Sue on her Nutrition back in May.  Sue asked if I could coach her for this event.  Quite simply I said.....I will help you and I will learn with you and I can advise you on things, but I really think what this particular event is about ,more than any other event I have ever discovered is......just what will you do to finish and how much do you want it.  I was so impressed by the 15 athletes that stepped up to the challange.   I can't say I quite get it myself, but I will say this, the people, the support of crews, families and friends and of couse the athletes, this is a spectacular event to see and one that I feel privledged to have witness.  To all of you that made this event happen, a toast to you and you betcha we will see you next year in some capacity or another:)

So, with fall nipping at our heels get out there and move!  OK Sue, you can have a couple weeks off:)

Cheers!
