Playing outside the box

Happy to have kept the rubber side down:)

One of the things I love so much about an active lifestyle is that it provides us with personal challanges.  Personal challanges came in a couple forms this weekend as Danielle took part in her first race in her new state of Colorado.  Danielle contacts me in early August and says,"Mel......I've got something to tell you......I am moving to Colorado!"  What is so much fun was that she was moving by September, not really sure what city let alone have an address, and within 3weeks Danielle has found a great swim club, road the mountains that everyone should ride and yup took part in a sprint triathlon.  Ok maybe it has something to do with being 24years old but I still think it is pretty darn cool.  So Danielle has found a new home in Boulder and from her updates it sounds like she is lovin' life - Way to go girl!

I also happened to go outside my box a bit this weekend.  As many of you know if you have been reading the posts I had the opportunity to crew for a great couple of guys at the TransRockies mountain bike race.  Any of my friends will know - my mountain bike skills well......suck...but that wasn't going to stop me!  So with the help of the Tuesday night girls, Andrew Sellers and my wonderful husband I did a 3week mountain bike crash(literally!) course and this past saturday I did the Vancouver XTC race which also happened to be Nationals - HA!

I had 3 goals........

  • finish the bike portion before the pro male finished - it was Kelly Guest by the way and I did it
  • finish before noon - I wanted to eat lunch with my friends
  • survive the bike!

I can happily report that I did all the above, had a fantastic time.  Basically I looked at the race like this..... a mountain bike race where I got a head start(I was 10th overall coming out of the water) and a 10k trail run where I had a ton of rabbits to run down(over 35 people passed me on the bike!)  Basically I have to learn how to mountain bike and all of you others out there have to learn how to swim!

So, get out there and move!  Cheers
