The official first day of Fall is upon us!
Hard to believe it has been over 4 weeks since IM Canada - lots has happened since August -most notably it is no longer summer and fall is in the air!
Let's start from the beginning as we get caught up:
Here in Vernon we have switched from track to trails as we get ready for the cross-country race schedule. The first run was held on the 24th of August and Dawna had a great time finishing 2nd in her age-group and getting set for a great series. This coming weekend is race #2 up in Larch Hills. If you look back at the 2nd of my blog reports you will remember this race as the $5.00 entry fee and of course chocoloate as the prize! I am looking for more chocolate - YUMMY!!!!
This past weekend was Nathan's triathlon in Tempe Town Lake and it always is a great event for those getting ready for the Soma 1/2 or in the case of this year those getting ready for the November running of IMAZ. So Melisa, Stef and Mike all made the trek to Tempe and fun times were had! Check out Melisa's race report - aways a great read!

Last but not least Brit and Val are getting ready for Kona- this seems to be the trend for these 2! Brit has been there for just over a week and Val will be there before she knows it! I just had to share with you though one of Vals experiences as she gets ready for the swim. As many of you here in Canada may know September seems to be the month of pool closures. Val, being one of the toughest chicks I know swam in Thetis with no wetuit up until last week, but as this has not been an option for the past little while I thought I would share with you some of Val's comments on the culture of pool swimming during "leisure swim" I am sure there are many of us out there that can relate!
A memorable quote:
At the Oak Bay pool, their “Fast” lane states: Must be able to swim 50m in 75 sec. Wow. Perfect for me. I would never qualify for the Fast lane at the Crystal. However, it is abundantly clear that most people in that lane (men) have never timed themselves. And their fashion sense is to wear floppy baggy shorts for swimming. So I am giving them nearly a length head start and then grabbing fistfuls of shorts before I have completed 50m. Makes me look pretty fast! Not that they get the message. In addition, all the people in the Fast lane were male (and then there was me). All the people in the Continuous lane were female. And they were “continuous” on rubber snakes and those plastic blow-up arm flotation devices thingees and basically bobbing from one end to the other.
Both lane options actually have 2 lanes each but everyone swims it as 1 big rectangle-which makes tumble turns awkward because people (men) get to the end and walk across to the other lane and eventually start swimming again. So, I decided to treat the swim as a continuous swim (no tumble terms or touching the wall) and act like I was going around some big buoys!
So, when you are out there looking at the fish in Hawaii remember just how great life is!
Alright everyone, the sun is poking through the clouds and so it is time for me to get off the computer and out for my run! Remember get out there and move!
