Congratulations Vernon Swimmers
This past sunday we held what is now an annual Vernon Masters event 100x100's. There are no rules other than to bring a donation of either food, cash or warm clothes and be ready to swim and have some fun.
This year, as last, we were able to count on the 2 Mike’s to both swim the total distance(I might add that Mike had done the same workout last weekend in Kelowna!!!) – and in addition we had 20 other swimmers out there, some doing 8000(Brock) and 6100(Cindy"I just feel so good I'm going to keep going") and I have to mention Darlene who after saying she had completed 4800 jumped back in to make it an even 5000 with a little help from her friends. We had several new comers to the 5000 club, Randy, Craig, Ginny to name a few, and several others(can I say Pam) who had not swum that far for over 20years. We did have a group jump in early on Saturday and Gary decided to break up the 10,000 over 2 days - a nice way to tackle the distance. We had teams doing 2000 each or 3333 each. As I said no rules just alot of fun at a most wonderful time of year.
And perhaps most important, we raised over $500.00 and brought some much needed warmth to others here in Vernon. Both the Upper Mission and the Salvation Army were incredibly grateful for the donations of food, warm clothes and of course cash which they can make go alot further.
Thanks Vernon Swimmers and to everyone out there Have a wonderfully happy and Safe Holiday season!
Cheers,
Melissa
