Just another trail run!
So, it never fails to surprise me that wherever I go I find similar minded individuals who believe that the best way to spend a Saturday morning is by running up a mountain! Well, I am happy to report that I have been in Vernon for just over 3 weeks and I have found a group of crazy boys.
Saturday evening I was sitting at Jen and Glenn's house playing a very exciting game of Cranium - spell twelfth backwards? I have had to use spellscheck 3 times spelling it forwards!! - anyways, I digress.........So there we are all sitting there and Glenn gets a call about a run for the next morning. We are going to run to the top of Silver Star Mountain from town! Yup, my longest run in the past 6 weeks has been 45mins - this is where I tell my althetes do as I say not as I do!! So there I find myself at 7:15 with Glenn(current xcountry runner extrodinaire), Bob - just looks like a mountain man and Murry - the local vet and mountain man #2. OK, I had no idea what to expect. I don't know why I was worried, we had a blast. As we approached hour 3 I came to the very real truth that you can work around 2 hours - but there is no way that you can muddle your way past 3 hours. It came down to the giggles and I don't know about you but I can not laugh and run at the same time!! So 3 hours and 24 minutes later over 4000ft of climbing in just over 24km we found ourselves at the Village of Silver Star enjoying a great cup of coffee and a tasty cinnamon bun - yup life is good!
Needless to say a great time was had - fabulous views from the top of the mountain and it gave me a great glimpse to the fun times ahead this winter as we ran across some of the xcountry trails.
Thanks to Bob, Murry and Glenn for letting me crash your boys club!
