The $5.00 event
In a time of $500.00 entry fees, expos and lets face it big buisness do the $5.oo events even exist anymore?!?!?
Well, I am happy to report that YES They do!
I was delighted this past Sunday to take part in the first event of the Okanagan X-country Series - The Reino Keski-Salmi Memorial 10K . We drove up to Larch Hills a beautiful Nordic Ski Area just North of Salmon Arm in British Columbia - Chris(my husband )and I followed our friends Jen and Glenn and their little son Mitchell and as we turned off the main road and started heading up and up and yes still up again I truly came to the conclusion that I really must embrace these beautiful hills. Really it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise seeing that the event was taking place on a SKI HILL - but somehow I didn't connect that fact and as I stepped out of my car I was greated with the coldest, cleanest and in my mind thinnest (remember I just moved from Arizona) air I had experienced in a long time. After a large enhale of the crsip and clean mountain air and a brief look around at some of the most beautiful scenery I have had the privledge of seeing, it was off to registration. And this is where I discovered the $5.00 event! I love it! We got recyled bib numbers, pins and really what more do you need?
The race you may ask.....beautiful trails, rolling terrain and great people. Remember Murray from my first posting - Mountain Man #2 - well he has new orange trail shoes now and he was so zippy up those hills - not that I was around to see as I as left in his dust - and he is a crazy mancoming down those hills!!!
The highlight of my day was the great prizes......Cadbury Fruit Nut Milk Chocolate Bars - Live really is GREAT!
Next event in the series is the Campbell Mountain Trail Run 8K in Penticton - Hope to see you there!
