Playing in the tropics!
Once again Val chose a destination race to enjoy the sights, the people and the racing!
One of the great things about triathlon is searching out the globe and finding some very cool places to race. I had raced in St. Croix back in the late '90's and so when Val put together her race plan for 2007 asked if St. Croix would be a good race, I thought - but of course!
Now, when one does the St.Croix 70.3 one has to ride some monstrous hills, aka "THE BEAST", but Val did not shy away from this challange. Even through one of the wettest winters in Victoria Val included the hills of Mt. Tolmie, Mt. Doug, the Observatory, Munns Road, you name it, if there was a hill in the Victoria area Val road it. Val gained confidence in her riding skill and got to see some pretty awesome views! On her arrival to St. Croix Val met, as always, newl ocal friends in addition to new racing friends from far away places, It is this character in Valerie that I find so amazing, her shining personaltiy.
The race, yup, it was challanging, in more ways than one! Val hung tough as she dealt with some mechanical issues, and dealt with the challanges that the course presented as a true champion - she crossed that finish line and collected a very well deserved 3rd place in her age-group - did I mention Val is 60! She by the way rocks!
So....After a bit of recovery Val will settle back to her work schedule, settle back into the routine of training(yes, I believe the rainy season is over) and have some fabulous memories of St. Croix! Great job Val!
Next weekend Endurance Health and Fitness Athletes will be at 70.3 Disney, Shawnigan 1/2 IM and the Tempe International.....So....what are you waiting for...get out there:)
